Institute for Environmental Science and Technology

In 1984 the Hanoi University of Technology established the Laboratory of Environmental Engineering. It was up-graded to Environmental Engineering department in 1990 and became the Center for Environmental Science and Technology (CEST) in 1994. The Institute for Environmental Science and Technology (INEST) was established in 1998 based on the foundation of the CEST by the Decision of the Ministry of Education & Training. The objectives of the Institute are as follows:

• To provide human resources to serve the environmental protection goals of the country.

• To bring clean technologies to industrial production serving for sustainable development aim.

Under the Institute, there are 5 units:

• Environmental Engineering Department

• Environmental Management Department

• Research and Development Environmental Technology Laboratory

• Viet Nam Cleaner Production Centre

• Centre for Industrial Environmental Monitoring and Pollution Control

ACTIVITIES

INEST accomplishes its objectives through the following activities:

Education/Training

Education and Training is a core activity of the Institute.

INEST provides education programs in the field of Environmental Engineering and Management leading to Bachelor, Master and Doctor degrees.

INEST organizes short training programs, workshop in selected areas to update, exchange knowledge and dissemination information. The Institute also provides deeply training/continuing training programs for environmental industrial officers.

Research

INEST conducts researches in environmental science, technology and management areas as follows:

• Analyse, assess environmental impacts from industrial activities

• Carry out research, design cleaner technologies applied in production as well as pollution control systems. Develop research direction of ecological design and sustainable production.

• Predict the future trend, and conduct research regarding policies, strategies and tools serving sustainable development goal of the country.
  

Projects, Programmes and Services

INEST provides consultation, design, transferring works in related areas of environmental engineering and management. It promotes cleaner production application into the development of the country.

Collaboration and networks

INEST builds collaboration with government, non-governmental, local and foreign organization/institutes to contribute solutions for national, regional and international environmental problems. INEST is one of the institutes, which play a main role in cooperation in national and international science and technology research and training network.
