During 16 months of implementation, the international and national experts of the project have directly worked with demonstration companies to advise them on product strategy, product packaging, cleaner production and marketing. As a result, 74 newly-designed and improved products in the furniture, aquaculture and handicrafts sectors have been produced. Additionally, 9 intensive training courses, 70 in-company consultancy sessions on sustainable product development, product packaging, marketing and cleaner production have been conducted for a wide range of targets, including 250 engineers, experts, designers and lecturers of 120 companies, associations, consultancy agencies, state management agencies and universities in Vietnam, Lao PDR and Cambodia. A website at the address of www.cp4bp.org has been come into operation for giving online supports for product innovation activities.
The Project has brought about a profound change in awareness of companies, organizations, individuals and other concerning partners in how to integrate sustainability factors into their product design and development processes. The resulted products from the participating companies have attracted remarkable attention from other companies and organizations. So far, 123 companies and organizations have registered in the network of sustainable product design and development of the project. In which, 5 former trainees of the project have established 2 companies and 1 consultancy centre on product design and development of their owns. Those organizations have completed 150 newly-designed products and produced them in pilot. The initial success of the project has laid a foundation for 2 projects using ODA fund, which is implemented in 2009, and 3 similar projects proposed to be taken place in 2010. In the midst of the global economic recession, the project deliverables have highlighted the feasibility and effectiveness of Sustainable Product Development.
To introduce and disseminate the results of the CP4BP project, the project partners are organizing two half-day Project Dissemination Workshops on Tuesday, 26 May 2009, at the Hanoi Hilton Hotel, 01 Le Thanh Tong, Hanoi; and on Friday, 29 May 2009, at the Hotel Sofitel Plaza Saigon, 17 Le Duan Boulevard, District 1, HCM city.
The project is supported by the European Union's Asia Invest Programme and will be opened by Sir Willy Vandenberghe, Head of Cooperation and Development Section of the European Commission to Vietnam.
